He recorded his final album,\u00a0Djangology<\/em><\/a>\u00a0in 1949, retired in 51, and died in 53, already a legend, \u201cone of the few European musicians to exert a serious influence on the American art form of jazz,\u201d writes an\u00a0NPR \u201cWeekend Edition\u201d profile<\/a>.
