Here he wanted to enlighten\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.historylearningsite.co.uk\/P3.htm\" target=\"page\">Philip III<\/a>\u00a0as to the true standing of Catholics in England.<br \/>\nIt is believed that he spent time with his old school friend Christopher Wright devising a plan for a Spanish invasion of England on the death of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.historylearningsite.co.uk\/elizabeth_i.htm\" target=\"page\">Elizabeth I<\/a>.<br \/>\nHowever, any chance of Spanish support for such a venture was minimal as the Spanish were still very much affected by the disaster of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.historylearningsite.co.uk\/spanish_armada.htm\" target=\"page\">1588 Spanish Armada<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 a calamitous defeat that had left deep scars in Spanish society.<br \/>\nIn the Spanish court he would have heard the masses of <a title=\"Tom\u00e1s Luis de Victoria\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tom%C3%A1s_Luis_de_Victoria\">Tom\u00e1s Luis de Victoria<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Alonso Lobo\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alonso_Lobo\">Alonso Lobo<\/a>\u00a0and maybe even some <a title=\"Claudio Monteverdi\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Claudio_Monteverdi\">Monteverdi<\/a>.<br \/>\n<a title=\"Miguel de Fuenllana\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Miguel_de_Fuenllana\">Miguel de Fuenllana<\/a>\u00a0might have still been around although very old, and so too would\u00a0<a title=\"Hernando de Cabez\u00f3n\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hernando_de_Cabez%C3%B3n\">Hernando de Cabez\u00f3n<\/a>, son of\u00a0<a title=\"Antonio de Cabez\u00f3n\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Antonio_de_Cabez%C3%B3n\">Antonio<\/a>.<br \/>\nBack in England he might have bumped into\u00a0<a title=\"Orlando Gibbons\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Orlando_Gibbons\">Orlando Gibbons<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Robert Johnson (English composer)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Robert_Johnson_(English_composer)\">Robert Johnson<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"Robert Dowland\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Robert_Dowland\">Robert Dowland<\/a>\u00a0on their way to the cellar.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, Guido would have missed most of the Spanish vihuelists whom we now know through their publications.<br \/>\nPerhaps if he had stayed to have lessons, he might have escaped his painful death.
