Now with a rather definitive law passed by US congress musicains are able to fly with more confidence.<\/p>\n<p>As it pertains to guitarists, the instrument will be allowed on board without any extra charge if it can be stowed safely onboard the aircraft. It will still be in your best interest to get on the aircraft early, as those overheads fill up quickly these days, however your odds of a safe flight for your precious has just been dramatically increased!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.classicalguitarreview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/PLAW-112publ951.pdf\">PDF of the new FAA law<\/a>\u00a0(USA only)<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2018(a) IN GENERAL.\u2014<br \/>\n\u2018\u2018(1) SMALL INSTRUMENTS AS CARRY-ON BAGGAGE.\u2014An air<br \/>\ncarrier providing air transportation shall permit a passenger<br \/>\nto carry a violin, guitar, or other musical instrument in the<br \/>\naircraft cabin, without charging the passenger a fee in addition<br \/>\nto any standard fee that carrier may require for comparable<br \/>\ncarry-on baggage, if\u2014<br \/>\n\u2018\u2018(A) the instrument can be stowed safely in a suitable<br \/>\nbaggage compartment in the aircraft cabin or under a<br \/>\npassenger seat, in accordance with the requirements for<br \/>\ncarriage of carry-on baggage or cargo established by the<br \/>\nAdministrator; and<br \/>\n\u2018\u2018(B) there is space for such stowage at the time the<br \/>\npassenger boards the aircraft.<br \/>\n\u2018\u2018(2) LARGER INSTRUMENTS AS CARRY-ON BAGGAGE.\u2014An air<br \/>\ncarrier providing air transportation shall permit a passenger<br \/>\nto carry a musical instrument that is too large to meet the<br \/>\nrequirements of paragraph (1) in the aircraft cabin, without<br \/>\ncharging the passenger a fee in addition to the cost of the<br \/>\nadditional ticket described in subparagraph (E), if\u2014<br \/>\n\u2018\u2018(A) the instrument is contained in a case or covered<br \/>\nso as to avoid injury to other passengers;<br \/>\n\u2018\u2018(B) the weight of the instrument, including the case<br \/>\nor covering, does not exceed 165 pounds or the applicable<br \/>\nweight restrictions for the aircraft;<br \/>\n\u2018\u2018(C) the instrument can be stowed in accordance with<br \/>\nthe requirements for carriage of carry-on baggage or cargo<br \/>\nestablished by the Administrator;<br \/>\n\u2018\u2018(D) neither the instrument nor the case contains any<br \/>\nobject not otherwise permitted to be carried in an aircraft<br \/>\ncabin because of a law or regulation of the United States;<br \/>\nand<br \/>\n\u2018\u2018(E) the passenger wishing to carry the instrument<br \/>\nin the aircraft cabin has purchased an additional seat<br \/>\nto accommodate the instrument.<br \/>\n\u2018\u2018(3) LARGE INSTRUMENTS AS CHECKED BAGGAGE.\u2014An air<br \/>\ncarrier shall transport as baggage a musical instrument that<br \/>\nis the property of a passenger traveling in air transportation<br \/>\nthat may not be carried in the aircraft cabin if\u2014<br \/>\n\u2018\u2018(A) the sum of the length, width, and height measured<br \/>\nin inches of the outside linear dimensions of the instrument<br \/>\n(including the case) does not exceed 150 inches or the<br \/>\napplicable size restrictions for the aircraft;<br \/>\n\u2018\u2018(B) the weight of the instrument does not exceed<br \/>\n165 pounds or the applicable weight restrictions for the<br \/>\naircraft; and<br \/>\n\u2018\u2018(C) the instrument can be stowed in accordance with<br \/>\nthe requirements for carriage of carry-on baggage or cargo<br \/>\nestablished by the Administrator.<br \/>\n\u2018\u2018(b) REGULATIONS.\u2014Not later than 2 years after the date of<br \/>\nenactment of this section, the Secretary shall issue final regulations<br \/>\nto carry out subsection (a).<br \/>\n\u2018\u2018(c) EFFECTIVE DATE.\u2014The requirements of this section shall<br \/>\nbecome effective on the date of issuance of the final regulations<br \/>\nunder subsection (b).\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>However, also <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/gov-39-t-fails-issue-rules-musical-instruments-094714018.html?soc_src=mediacontentstory\" target=\"_blank\">check this out<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From Joan Lowy via Classical Guitar Review.
