{"id":379,"date":"2013-07-10T15:57:53","date_gmt":"2013-07-10T15:57:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.geraldgarcia.com\/wordpress\/?p=379"},"modified":"2013-07-10T17:34:53","modified_gmt":"2013-07-10T17:34:53","slug":"goss-triple-orpheus-sinfonia-grand-finale-july-11th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/geraldgarcia.com\/?p=379","title":{"rendered":"Goss Triple, Orpheus Sinfonia Grand Finale, July 11th 2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>This is a bit late, but Steve Goss, guitar composer hero has a performance of his Triple Concerto for Sax, Cello, Piano and Orchestra tomorrow at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cadoganhall.com\/event\/orpheus-sinfonia-grand-finale-130711\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cadogan Hall<\/a>, London SW1x 9DQ. <\/em><br \/>\n<em>It is written for the Orpheus Sinfonia, of which he has been composer-in-residence and this concert also features Beethoven&#8217;s 9th.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nOf the Concerto, he says &#8220;<\/em>The solo parts are part-composed, part-devised and part-improvised. He had very short hair in those days and fell prey to a trick at a summer school run by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.esgmusic.com\/stephen-gordon-biography\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Gordon<\/a> at Prussia Cove, Cornwall The trick involved his performance of Britten&#8217;s Nocturnal and a piece of rubber&#8230; \u00a0so h<em>e&#8217;s a good sport as well as everything else.\u00a0<\/em>Subsequent antics caused the Summer School to close down, possibly involving the same piece of rubber&#8230;\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Since then, he has written what I consider a masterly piece on the Nocturnal entitled &#8220;Come Heavy Sleep, Motive and Metaphor in Britten&#8217;s Nocturnal Op.70&#8221;<br \/>\nBelow is the link to a PDF file, which every guitarist should read and learn from.
