Not the Cello Suites, as you might expect, but the violin sonatas, played on viola da gamba by one of today’s greatest exponents of the instrument.
This is beautiful music making whether you think of it as an “early music” interpretation or not. The virtuosity is disguised by the apparent ease of execution and unforced authentic ornamentation.
As difficult or more so on the gamba as on the guitar, with that added ingredient of interpretation by someone who has lived in this music all her life.
Highly recommended (especially for the Chaconne – again!). Get it!
